U.N. to Hold Emergency Meeting Ahead of South Korean Drills

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson urges North Korea to use maximum restraint ahead of the South's planned military drills, hoping that the U.N. Security Council will deliver the same message in an emergency meeting aimed at discussing the Korean tensions.
Congress Repeals 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'
WASHINGTON -- In a landmark vote, the Senate on Saturday ended the Clinton-era ban on gays serving openly in the military, marking a major triumph for President Obama, liberals and the gay community.

Body of U.S. Tourist Found Near Jerusalem
JERUSALEM – The body of a female American tourist, bound and with multiple stab wounds, was found Sunday near a road outside Jerusalem, police said.
Her friend, an immigrant from the U.K., had reported her missing a day earlier after she too was found nearby, also with knife wounds and her hands tied, police said.
The two had been hiking in a nearby forest when they were assaulted by two Arab men and her friend was dragged away, she told police on Saturday.
The woman's disappearance set off a large-scale hunt by police and military in the wooded hills outside Jerusalem.Read more

Heavy Snow Freezes Travel Across Europe
PARIS – Heavy snow and freezing temperatures shut down European runways and slowed road traffic Sunday, canceling flights and leaving cars skidding down icy streets.
Heavy snow blanketed Paris — a rarity that has occurred several times in recent weeks in an unusually cold winter. A quarter of flights were canceled at Charles de Gaulle airport until at least 4 p.m. local time.
London's Heathrow Airport was not accepting any arrivals Sunday and was allowing only a handful of departures after snow and ice forced the closure of runways, but was preparing for a full reopening Monday, a statement on its website said.
"We are extremely sorry for the disruption," the statement said, urging passengers to check with their airline before  to the airport. Several hundred workers were doing their best "to keep passengers in the terminal as warm and as comfortable as possible while we do everything we can to get Heathrow moving. read more
